No. Many families are surprised to learn that the 504 Plan or IEP that governed the accommodations and services throughout high school does not follow the student to college. This is because the law that authorizes these accommodation plans, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), does not apply at the college level. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) governs the provision of accommodations and services at the college level and in the workforce. The ADA provides for accommodations that support students with learning disabilities, but the goal of the law is access not necessarily student success. We help students understand the difference and prepare for the self-advcacy and indepence required for student success.
