Joan works with students with a wide variety of learning differences and loves the challenge of finding and building on their strengths and maximizing their potential. She has expertise in gifted and talented students with learning disabilities (GTLD), special education policies and procedures, accommodations and adaptations, assistive technology, and adoption.
She has long-term experience with the education community serving on multiple committees through Montgomery County Public Schools and the Board of the GTLD Network. She has both interest and experience in the intersection of education ( MCPS) and business through work for the Montgomery County Business Roundtable on Education.
She is active in the community and proud of ongoing collaborations with the Learning Disabilities Association of Montgomery County (LDAMC), Children and Adults with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (CHADD), The Barker Foundation, and GTLD advocacy groups from other counties. Joan has developed materials and processes to help students prepare to be independent and successful individuals and find the right fit college.
